It has been said that fans at certain tracks are too aggressive if they don't agree with the outcome of a race?

Does anyone know why NASCAR tracks started using aluminum grandstands??

Update:

Steffy is amazing, and does her homework.. lol

A common problem for track owners, was that the fans would show their displeasure by not just setting the grandstands on fire, but sticking around to make sure that they burned to the ground.. They would do the same to official buildings as well, if they had "demands" to be satisfied.. lol

NASCAR couldn't cheat those fan, OR their drivers out of an honest race.. These fans knew the rules, and demanded respect..

It is not just the fans at a NASCAR race that get aggressive if they don't agree with the outcome. Just about all forms of sports have the same type of fan response. Some say it is the alcohol, but I have seen people who were quite sober do the same type of bad behavior.

People will be people. They may be fans of the sport but they are poor sports.

Maintenance free - no painting or rusting

Aluminum will probably tollerate more vibatrions from a lot of mad fans too. Also the aluminum would shrink and stretch the less in hot and cold weather. It gives a little flexibility to the structure when there is a lot of weight on them.

Also they would be cooler for the fans. The aluminum would absorb less heat as compared to steel structures.

It's light, yet strong, and cheap. Oh, and it doesn't rot like wood.
