Sooo obviously the first guy has said what its ACTUALLY about. However you did say for *you* what was the movie about so....For me I just took it as all the stuff that happened in Pink's past (His dad going to war, school, etc) as having kinda built up so much that he had to block it all out. Which is where the wall comes in, I think. I think its his way of blocking out all the emotions and pain that he would otherwise have to feel. And when The Trial comes in, he has to face up to all the sh*t in his past and then they break down the wall, so he has to feel again and has to face up to everything that went on.

I suppose in a way its a warning of what can happen to us all if we let stuff build up so much that there's no way out. You can just become isolated to society and everything thats going on around you, and in a way its as if you're not even living any more. Well, not a proper life.

Anyway, I love that movie. You're lucky that you got to watch it in class, I wish my classes were like that! It's cool 'cause its got awesome Pink Floyd music in it, but also it makes me think.

"The Wall" film is based on Pink Floyd's double album "The Wall". The album was primarily the work of Pink Floyd's bassist and (then) leader Roger Waters. At that point in the band's career (early 80s), the band had achieved a considerable amount of success with albums such as "Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here", and "Animals". During the 1977 tour promoting "Animals", Waters was feeling increasingly frustrated by the isolation he felt from his peers, his fans, and the people around him; this culminated in an incident where Waters spit on a fan who had attempted to climb the stage.

Waters then realized that the many of the incidents throughout his life--the death of his father during WWII, his mother's over-protectiveness, his abusive schoolteachers, his broken relationship with his wife (who cheated on him), and life as a rock star--had created a "wall" that mentally and emotionally isolated him from the world. The Wall album/film embellishes on this, telling the story of a rock star named Pink who goes through similar experiences and similar isolation, and eventually ends up going (more or less) insane. It is predominantly critical of the empty and lonely lifestyle of a rock star, and the people who've abused and taken advantage of him in the past, such as his mother, wife, and the abusive English school system.

Why yes, I am a Pink Floyd fan.
