Guys, try this question please. Why do many criminals choose life in prison by pleading guilty instead of death?
Hi, I asked this question earlier today, and i was not satisfied with the answers.
Hi,
I dont get it. If I was convicted of a serious crime, and If I am facing a life in prison or death penalty, My choice would be to have put to death rather than a life of imprisonment with my guilty conscience and confinement with no hopes, even the chance of a parole or normal life.
Yet, many guilty convicts, plead guilty to get a life in prison rather than an easy escape to be put to death. Why do they do that? I don't understand. I know putting to be death is bad and is the harshest punishment.
Would you not rather die than live a life in a cage?
My biggest crimes would be couple of parking and speeding tickets and perhaps downloading movies from torrent sites so far, but hey, I have had times, when I almost did this bad and that, and could have advantage of the system, almost walked scot free with money and had criminal thoughts. Of course, my conscience kept me from doing those, but that doesn't mean, I am always perfect. I am not actually, and sometimes, i freak myself out at certain skills I have, and thoughts I have. I have no accountability, have several bad friends who are into lot of ****, sometimes very less compassion, and I am unbelievably arrogant. Yet, I made it thru' so far without doing crime, which honestly, knowing me, is a surprise for me and most of my family. I cant be more honest about me.
Is there something else to death penalty that none of us know about?
But WHY would any criminal not choose to be put to death, and rather get put in jail with bad people, get raped in the a**, live every moment of torture and live a horrible horrible life until death ???

i was in prison for almost 19 years
and to me prison life was so much easier than living free
prison is not what movies makes it out to be it is basically the same as being free but you don't have any bills to worry about ,you don't have to worry about the bill collectors ,you don't have to worry about if you are not going to get to eat a good meal tonight , you don't have to have medical insurance, and you get a better education in prison than you do on the streets and its free. but the only down side is that you cant leave if you want too and you have to shave $hit and shower when somebody tells you too you just sit around all day playing cards watching tv and shooting the breeze.now who wouldn't want that
the cigarettes and grocery's are cheaper in prison and you free cloths and boots and you even have somebody wash them for you
my father was on death row for 11 years before he rode the lighting
now he went through torture knowing that the next appeal might be his last .

First of all, as long as you're alive, you have a possibility of release or escape. That's enough for most people.
Second, being sentenced to death costs several times more than living 30 years in prison (after about 12 years of appeals for even a marginally satisfactory answer to that 'shadow of a doubt' regarding any capital crime), so maybe you just want to do the taxpayers a favor?
Even if you'd rather die than sit in prison, you'd probably rather do it on your own terms, so you might opt for suicide in prison.

B/c people learn to live with the life that they are given. So they get used to being in jail and dealing with the surroundings there to them it's no big deal. Some of them even find it easier to deal w/ life on the inside b/c there are set rules and regulations and they need that constant reinforcement. So to them it isn't a horrible life- it's just life. And until one is staring the grim reaper in the face, so to speak, no one can ever say if they would rather die than live. People are more comfortable w/ what they know and they know life and jail. They don't know death.

It's amazing what people can get used to. Some guys actually maintain a semblance of a life in prison. They've got drugs, Cable TV, books, occasional conjugal visits, and some guys even seem to enjoy the homosexuality. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea but I guess it beats a dirt nap.

You rambel alot. Some people would rather that God judge them, some people are afraid of going to hell. I don't understand why anyone would ever just kill one person myself. I don't think I would ever kill anyone, but, if I ever did, I certainly would not stop until they shot me. Of course then again, I consider myself a good and decent person, most criminals are not good and decent people, a lot of them are demented and sick. They are probably afraid of what their fate would be if they were put to death. This world is filled with corrupt, ignorant, self centered individuals!!!

Either way I heard that if you get death there are so many people already in line that it takes years and years, and end up it being life anyway.

Most people are afraid of death, and will do nearly anything rather than face their fear.
