I was thinking of going back into the military?

I already did my 8 years in service (6 active and 2inactive) my time was up January that just past. The last time I actually was at my unit was like 2 years ago. I wanted to think about going back only for a couple of years but I heard that when you reenlist now its for indefinite. I also have two small children, boys (1 year old and a 3 going on 40! lol) I really wanted to get stationed in Atlanta. Does anyone have any info for me? I really need to know if I want to go back in and would it be wise for me. 1 more thing I would be going down there alone just me and my boys. Thanks!

Update:

also if I did go back do they help pay for the move? And automatically place you in housing. I was in active reserve

If you go active, it will not be an indefinite reenlistment (not til 15 years of service I believe). However they cannot promise you a duty station but they will pay to move your family wherever you go. In my opinion, however, I would avoid it as the military life would be extremely unpredictable for a mother with 2 boys and it would separate you from your family more than you will probably want, even in garrison.

I just reenlisted after a 5 year "break" into the army and they made me sign for only 3 yrs. I personally wanted to go for more but they are being strict on the prior service going back to the army, mainly because of the high school surge I'm told. So good luck getting what you want/deserve, I felt like the leper at MEPS but this is where I need to be.

I have no idea about the housing or move allowance since I have to go back to another AIT before I move my family.

  • I don't see why a reenlistment would be indefinite. In fact, the Obama administration is phasing out stop-loss in the near future. Obviously it's a big decision for you. I'm going back as an officer (fingers crossed) because I've found that jobs are few and far between in the "real" world and I miss the hard working good people of the military. Go see a recruiter, it couldn't hurt.

Why? Your Commander in Chief Comrade Barack Hussein Obama is a COWARD.
