I have to get my wisdom tooth taken out in three weeks. Can someone tell me how the procedure goes? Thanks!?
I know its going to hurt. I really trust my new dentist. Should there be anything I should ask him or anything I should brace myself for? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

I got mine out a few years ago. Basically you walk in the operating room and the doctor gets you to sit down and relax. They then hook you up to an IV and ask you if you are ready... the the drip in the IV starts and within a few seconds you are out... time seems to stand still... It happens so fast :) You slowly wake up you will still be drowsy and you will walk into a recovery room where you will sit for a few minutes until you come back around... the dentist put some gauze in your mouth to stop the bleeding, you will have to take it out in a half hour to curb infection. Then you go home and rest... take your pain medicine as directed and follow instructions... Ice your face regularly and relax, and rinse out the sockets. If you take it easy watch a few movies and do as your told you'll be back to normal in no time. It was really easy and relatively painless when you take your medication.
Good luck and don't worry. :)

I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted on 2/12/09. Here is how my procedure went.
I was given shots of novocaine and nitrous oxide gas. I didn't want to be put to sleep.
During the procedure everything was great. I was singing the entire time. I didn't feel a thing, well I felt very slight pressure.
The first few days after the procedure were the worst for me.
My jaw was terribly sore. My cheeks were swollen and black and blue.
Take your pain meds. If you don't the pain will be a hundred times worse.
As soon as I was done with the pain meds I got a sinus infection and that turned into a cold. I still have that cold.

It depends...
If your wisdom teeth are impacted your in for one hell of a ride bud! I, unfortunately went with the shots instead of the gas so I felt some pretty gnarly pain when he put the shots in...
However if your wisdom teeth are normal then you don't have much to worry about ;D
it's alot easier.
Here's what they'll do;
They'll sit you in the chair, lay you all the way back, shine a light in your face and begin to place the shots. I believe it's 4 per tooth, but keep in mind that mine were impacted, the bottom shots are what you should brace yourself for. honestly bring some music to listen to, it'll make things alot easier.
You'll be numb within a few min, no more than 5 I believe. From there your O.S. will slice the gum open, you will not feel any of this...maybe pressure but NOTHING painful. He'll open up the flaps that he's made during the incision kinda like when you open a book. He'll then place an instrument underneath your tooth (with a lil elbow grease if you will) and begin to tug at it trying to "pop" it out. He may have to break your tooth so don't get nervous if he does, it's normal and he'll take all the pieces out. After the tooth is removed he'll place the stiches and move onto the next one.
If your going for the gas lucky you =]
If your going with the shots...just be prepared when he's coming at your lower wisdom teeth...it may be VERY painful.
let me put it this way, I worked in a Dental Office and thought nothing of the shots but as he placed the first shot in I gasped at the unexpected pain and tears were involuntarily falling down my face before I could even react. I asked him to give me a sec before he moved onto the next one. I turned up my music really loud and closed my eyes and dealt with it.
If it get's too much for you ask him to give you a sec or to put more of the numbing gel on the injection site.
All in all if your getting all 4 done it should probably take 30-45min.
Good Luck my friend, once their out you got nothing to worry about :D
