Heroes Question? On cold snap did they make a mistake?

Ok in the latest episode of heroes at the end Angela Petrelli is saved by Peter now by having said that if peter can only handle one power at a time how is it possible that he flew out of the elevator. You may think that he has Nathan flying power but if he touched his mom wouldnt he have her power instead?

    i'm pretty sure he has the ability to choose whether or not he wants to take someone's power.
