Western digital hard drive recycling?
Upgrading the hard drives on my self built desktop. I'd like to recycle at least 2 of the 4 Western Digital Caviar SE 16 250 gb SATA II drives by installing it in an external case. This way, I'll be able to use it as an external drive. The question is will a Dell desktop 'recognize' this hard drive as plug and play? Connection will be through a USB cable.
I know that Dell's are notorious for rejecting over the counter hardware, I'm wondering if this desktop will do the same?
Would I need to change a setting in the bios?
yes, the enclosure I plan to use will be hooked up via USB, with a separate power cord

It all depends on the external case, and what logic it uses. It should work, assuming you get an external drive enclosure that connects by USB. Both laptop and desktop should have no issues with a good quality external drive enclosure (one made to take SATA drives and put them onto USB)
