Okay, for me, the idea of living forever is just as scary as the reality of death. I've often thought, what if there really was a biblical heaven and I was fortunate enough to go there to live forever. That should be nice and comforting, right? But, as I'm reflecting on the concept, I'd get this almost fearful feeling of dread. I just can't imagine how living for infinity could possibly be enjoyable. This is not intended to be a Theological debate, I'm just wondering if anyone else has imagined the same.
I do not give thumbs down for expressed opinions. No TDs came from me.

Good question. Living forever would need a new energy source because I am pretty sure the current one I have would not last that long....we have been equipped to last in these mortal temples as long as our bodies are intended to stand (ie under 100 years average) I assume the time continuum would actually change in the concept of forever. (there could be no estimation of duration) Even the measure of a moment would be different. Our perception of the "now" would also change. In short a total change of who I am now and the potential to start again is quite attractive for a longer existence in another time and place, leaving the past behind and exploring the new future. Renewed spirit and attitude....Bring it on!

Whichever place people go it will not be by accident, but by choice.
There are two basic perceptions that may help understand, firstly the Bible says ;-
Mark 10: 14-15
But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
Therefore, the view point of eternity should be seen through the eyes of children who have not been tainted by this world.
Secondly, Heaven and Hell are not our final destinations They are holding places until the completion of Two main events.
1. Those that are resurrected i,e Born Again believers in Christ who are given new bodies and dwell on this Earth with its New King. The Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Those that are resurrected after the 1000yr reign of the Lord Jesus which culminates in the battle of Armageddon. Then all who were not in the "First Resurrection" will be brought before The Lord God Almighty. This is known as the White Throne Judgement Those that don't make it will end up in the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:11-15)
After that a "new earth" (Rev. 21)is were we will dwell forever and the real beauty of this all and why things will be so much different is that
for the first time since the "fall", Man will be able to look into the face of God. (Rev. 21: 23-24)

And in what form would you be? Would you even have a concept of time? If faith is the basis of most religion, would not your faith say, it will be wonderful, therefore why worry about something over which I have no control? Now I am going to mess with your mind by relating my recent medical adventure. First I am religious, etc. but if the Cardiologist is correct, I had sudden cardiac arrest when I passed out at the dog park. The only reason he said I am still alive is when I hit the ground, my heart restarted. Now in that brief moment of time I can tell you there was no Epiphany, no bells, trumpets and no golden light! While I still believe that our energy passes on, I am somewhat skeptical as to wondrous tales told. But that is just me.

Supposedly, in "eternity", there is no sense of time passing, so it's something like a combination of always staying up late and still always having "all day" to do whatever it is you want to do. And supposedly, the direct experience of God is so cool that it will be all you'll ever really want to do. But for us temporally constrained creatures, such ideas are a considerable challenge to the imagination, kind of like a whole lot of not much.

Agreed. This is one of the first concepts that made me begin to doubt Christianity.
I have found peace of mind in the fact that the world we live in is in a state of constant change (oxymoron). It seems absurd that you could be stuck in something "forever". I still don't like the idea and, frankly, I don't believe it.

You would have no fear or dread if you knew for sure where you are going to live for eternity. We are all going to live on forever either in heaven or hell.
I chose heaven! And by the grace of God...I am going there.

Believe me, I have thought about that alot and Duey has insured me many times that it fine to live for eternity. It made me feel better when I learned that we can incarnate into Earth. That breaks up the eternity and then we can have children again. It makes me feel alot more optimistic about eternity.

I'm with you on this. I am not scared of dying since I believe that it is the end of everything...no after-life, thank goodness. I'm happy at being alive and I am in no hurry to go....so I shall be sorry when my time comes.

Death makes life worthwhile. If you live forever, nothing matters, and if no evil can happen in said afterlife, that limits people's choices...so Heaven is a big, behavior-limiting boredfest.
