NOPE the direct x11 cards will be coming out in novemeber and they won't be gtx 280's. there will probably be backwards compatible games for direct x 10 but there won't be a "driver update" this is a hardware thing not a software thing.

This is why even though I realy want ot buy a GTX25 I am holding off until next spring to buy my next gen video cards.

    Hope this helps

Nope. But that is such a minor worry there's no point. The 260 is the second-best card in existence, next to the 280. Are there even any dx11 cards yet? I don't know. The 280 isn't. If Direct X 11 is a new version, it won't have full backward compatibility to dx10 cards, if it did, they'd call it dx 10.1. And the number of applications and video games that even use direct 10 is so minimal that it is going to be years before there's much of a market for direct x 11. The vast majority of stuff is in fact optimized for direct x 9 and for opengl 2.0 and 3.0. That there's no real market for another DirectX version might be the St George that will finally kill the Microsoft dragon. Why should Microsoft set the graphical standard? They're an operating system developer, not graphics experts. They can only maintain the Direct X juggernaut if they can keep selling a new version every couple years. But the current version is underused. the good cards already use opengl too, if open gl can get a bit better development, software companies will switch to it. It's made a lot of headway lately and is used in lots of top hardware exclusively, including the ps3.

Oooh. 2 Questions. No and November. Microsoft said possible early release. I think June, but they said this month.

When DirectX 11 does come out, they are making cards specifically for it, but the drivers for the GTX 280 would just be modified to play it, but not necessarily to the capacity needed.
