how horrible does it look to paint wallpaper?

I have 3 rooms that have some UGLY wallpaper, I don't want to remove it, but i don't want to look at it anymore. Can I just paint it? Will it just look like painted wallpaper?

it will look fine as long as there are no air bubbles or any peeling on the wallpaper and if the wallpaper is not heavily textured

your best bet is to just remove the wall paper first

a lot of people paint over wallpaper. She should use some primer first though. And hopefully, the wallpaper is stuck quite good, or, you're right, it could look like crap. But it is not at all abnormal to paint over wallpaper. It's just a bathroom, you don't have to worry about the resale value of the house, let it go!

well first of all make sure the paper is not going to lift. If it is run paint or glue over the lifted areas and press down and smooth the glue around, then let dry and paint.

It will look great. The wallpaper will give texture and depth to the paint in different light I did it in my hall way and I love it.

Just make sure the paper is going to be up the the task.

I would say that if you want it to look good, your best bet is to just remove the wallpaper before painting. if you don't and it looks bad (chances are it will, I've tried it), you'll have to remove the wall paper anyway and buy MORE paint to paint the room again.

Smooth wallpaper is ok at best. Make sure that you seal the edges before you paint.

it looks awful, i recommend taking down the wallpaper or hiring someone to do it because you would regret painting over it in the long run. Just take it down. Trust me.

it will look fine at first but the paint will chip easily and it wont look good. you have to strip the wallpaper off first

It's a risky business painting over paper...could all come tumbling down!! If you're not going to re-paper I think it would be worth the extra time and effort to get rid of the old paper.

You can paint it but it wont turn out as well as if you remove it and paint it. If it is rough or has a texture, just remove it.

It depends. If the wallpaper is smooth it could work well.
