Dodge Ram Van 1985 help?
I just bought an old 1985 Dodge ram van. I needed it because I have a relative who is an amputee & this thing is big and she can get her walker, wheelchair and everything she needs in it for doctors visits ect. I got it checked out and one mechanic said the transmission was slipping but other than that it was ok for it's age. The gears shift fine when I change from park, to reverse, etc but when I am driving if I go past 35mph it acts as if I have to put it almost to the floor to get it to go faster. I took it to a transmission shop and I had a leak in the transmission. They did a service job and stopped the leak/ they drove it around and said it was ok. It does drive better but still acts as if you have to hold down the accelerator at times to go faster. What could it be? Again the transmission guy said it was ok.
I only paid 750.00 for it and it will only be driven around in town mostly. I called around just in case I ever need it rebuilt and the cheapest was 660.00. Which is ok. I have a car which is paid out so the 660.00 would not be a big deal if it needs to be done. On occasion one of my relatives doctor is 100 miles away so I want it to be in decent shape.

there are many reasons for automatic transmissions to act that way,and unless properly tested it will be guess work, however it sounds like the torque converter is bad.you could change it ,change the fluid and filter and adjust and hopefully this will solve the problem.good luck
