why avi, mp3 files are automatically changing its extension to jpg in my system?

I have scanned whole computer with "AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition" software. But still if I download or copy any .mp3, .avi files from internet or CD/DVD, once I restart the system it will automatically changed to .jpg file.

Update:

Plz suggest some permanent solution to it. changing the file extension can be done only if there are 5-10 files. But I have more than 200 files which have changed their extension. Again if I download some more (avi, mp3) files it will happen to those files also.

This is because of a malware and not a virus, and hence will not be detected by the anti-virus. To begin with, go to msconfig and disable the start up program from C:\windows\system32\mcont to prevent if from changing everytime your restart.

Then check out this link for how to remove the software and also how to change all extensions at once: http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-7343-0.html?forum...

Just change the file extension from .jpeg to .avi or .mp3 and change the program to open with to Windows Media Player.

it is totaly possable to change the file extention, but thats not going to change a picture to a song. assuming you are using windows. first you need to open windows explorer(my computer) then click on tools, folder options, then on the views tab, then uncheck hide extentions for known file types, click apply and ok, and then go the file you want to change and rename the extention and your done. WARNING, this doesnt change a photo to a song, and i dont know any way to do that unless you are a composer, and then you will have to do in your mind.

Rush to Explorer. Go to the file and right click it. Select OPEN WITH.

    Some extension mishap.
