Why do people leave pennies on the closet floor when they move?

this has been in practice for much longer than i can remember, But its supposed to be considered good luck for the new homeowners.

I don't think that they really mean to leave them on the floor. They just don't think that they are important enough to be picked up. If it was a quarter, then that person wouldn't be let it stay there, because people tend to want quarters more than pennies because they are worth more.

However, some people may leave them there, because they are superstitious, and maybe they believe that leaving pennies on the floor in the house that they are leaving will bring good luck to both them and the new occupants of the house.

They don't wish to worry about the "small stuff."

I have been cleaning houses for nearly 15 years, and some have money, some don't.

Personally, if I see a penny on the ground, I don't care if it's heads UP or DOWN... I always pick it up... and say, "I'm not proud, just poor!"

I wouldn't. I would think it was because they didn't vacuum properly or it had something to do with good luck.

I have heard of the custom of putting a penny in a wallet or purse you give as a gift because it's supposed to bring wealth.

i don't know about the closet, but when i move it's tradition to leave a penny facing the door to ensure prosperity to the next person to move in. could be the same thing?

They probably wiped a booger on them and are laughing knowing you will probably pick them up because people like us think even pennies are important in our financial life.

weird. i always learned that when you run across pennies it is a good luck message from our loved ones beyond.

when we remodeled we faced huge challenges. the week we finished i found myraid pennies all over the floor, even in my mailbox. they were not there before. i know they were a 'good for you' message from beyond.

probably because the sweaters, pants etc. with pockets have pennies and they fall over the years and accumulate
