Can trap cards be activated at anytime during your opponent's turn?

Like the questions says, can your trap cards that you set down during your turn be activated at anytime during your opponent's turn? For example, I set down a stronghold the moving fortress during my turn. My turn ends and it goes to my opponent's turn. He puts down a monster and he attacks. I take the life point damage and when his turns about to end I activate it. Can I do that or do i have to activate it in response to something, like in response to his attack or his summon or whatever?

Another example: If I set down the quickplay spell Fire of Doomsday and end my turn. It goes to my opponent's turn and he summons and attacks. I take the life point damage and afterward activate it. Would I be able to do that, or again do I need to do it in response to something? Can I activate those cards at any given time?

One final example: If I set down a compulsory evacuation device during my turn and end it. It becomes my opponent's turn and he brain control one of my monster, instead of responding to the brain control I let him have it. After he brain control and bring the monster to his side would I be able to activate my trap or did I miss my chance to? Would I have to wait til he's about to attack or do something where I can chain compulsory to? Or would I be able to just activate it right then and there after he takes my monster?

Sorry for all these loooong questions, it's just been on my mind and I need to get it clear. Thank you for the answers [:

Interesting Question - NOT a simple answer...

if you want a simple answer, well, unlucky, lol.

To start, a players turn is devided into "Phases" (or P. to save me time typing), and a turn lays out like this:

    Draw P. -> Standby P. -> Main P.1 -> Battle P. -> Main P. 2 (ONLY if you Attacked) -> End P.

Now then, most of the time NOTHING apart from the card draw happens in the Draw P., unlss a card specifies "During your Draw Phase..."

The Standby P. is your First time to activate face down Traps. Most of the time it is skipped and ignored, but during EITHER players Standby P., you can activate traps - UNLESS the cardspecifies against it, e.g. "Activate only during the battle..."

on you Main P 1., you an Summon 1 Monster - At this point you CAN activate Traps in retaliation, during EITHER players turn, the same goes for Special summoned Monsters. You can also play Spell/Magic cards from your hand, again, this IS a point where you can activate Trap cards. - if your opponent SETS a card face DOWN, you CAN NOT activate a Trap in retaliation.

During the Battle P. it gets confusing...ish, when your opponent delcairs an Attack, you CAN activate a trap, BUT during damage calculation you CAN NOT activate one, giving you not much time to realise you want to activate the trap card you may have set. if you activate a trap card late, well, your not allowed to.

    Main P. 2 is IDENTICAL to Main P. 1

End P., this is where you are told it is your Turn, and you CAN NOT activate Traps during the End P.

Now then, with all of these in play for the Entire duel, you MUST also remember that a Trap Card HAS to have been set for one of your OPPONENTS FULL Turns befor you can flip it and activate it, e.g., I set Magic Cylinder during my Main P.1 , my Opponent summons Dark Magician during their Main P. 1 and attack with it, I CAN NOT use my Magic Cylinder, I have to wait until the next attack.

    Hope This Helps

The only spell cards that you can activate during you opponents turn are Quick Play spell cards like Shrink and Mystical Space Typhoon. So you can activate shrink when you get attacked. Good Luck

skull mat is correct with one exeption. if you set magic cylinder during your turn. on your opponent turn you can activate it. a trap just cannot be activated the same turn it is set. so as soon as you end your turn your trap can be activated. also you can activate traps in your opponents end phase. same with quick play spells. this can be very annoying as it can go like this:

you have a face down dust tornado or mystical space typhoon

your opponent sets a trap and ends his/her turn

you say "your end phase" wich means iot is not yet your turn so their trap cannot yet be activated and you play dust tornado or mst destroying their trap before it can even be activated. i hope this helps.

You can activate it at his end phase or any time you wish.

    Same as the above answer.

You can do it at any of those times you mentioned, which is why I try to run three since it's that irritating.

isnt it something like that if the trap says something like it activates when something provokes it like trap hole but for your case i believe that yeah you probably can but i dont know the specifics because i quit a while ago.

Also, IS THIS YU-GI-OH you are talking about -_- and isn't there a rule book!? which you should be able to refer to? -_-
