1. 2, 8, 18, 2
2. I know the when and where. Europe in the dark ages. It was about the only discovery to come out of the dark ages. And you can be sure that it was done in secrecy, probably by an alchemist.
3. I don't have the numbers memorized, but I do know that it has such a low melting point, it actually boils before copper melts. Easy to make it boil with a propane torch. Just heat up a penny and it will start smoking. That's the zinc vapor. Zinc is fairly soft, not as bright as silver.
4. Easily dissolved in acids, even very weak ones, and in the process vigorously liberates hydrogen gas, though oddly enough it does not readily corrode away in air or plain water.
5. Well gee, I don't know it has a NAME. I know it's zinc, cadmium and mercury.
6. Maybe I'm getting group and family mixed up. It's a transition metal. That's probably the answer to whatever one the other is not.
