figuring square footage?

im putting in a new floor in my den and dont know how to figure square footage . anyone ?

    you measure the length of the room and the width then times it. so if the length is 10 feet and the width is 10 feet you have 10 times 10 or a hundred square feet.

    "to measure square footage you need to measure a square area." HUH? Sorry wrong answer. It's length times width. It doesn't matter whether its square or not. If it's a triangle, you STILL measure length times width. Then you divide by 2. If you want square yards, as has been stated, divide by 9. If you want square inches, multiply by 144.
