Look up Gimp and download it. It is free and it's just like Photoshop. Go to YouTube to look up tutorials on how to use it. Some of my stuff is on http://www.viewbug.com/user/sbzw8704/ I don't do models, just my kids mostly, but Gimp works well.

DL is 100% correct. You have to have the photographic skill, it's not just editing. Photoshop is probably the most popular editing program, but like I said, there isn't a magic button in Photoshop that makes your images look amazing and perfect.

pro photographers dont really edit pics. they get it right with pro camera gear, lighting, makeup, wardrobe, set design and other physical elements. they dont rely on editing tricks to make fantastic photos.
if you want your pics to look like that you need to learn all you can about photography. until then there are several image editors that you an use to improve the appearance of your photos. the two most popular are probably paint shop pro and photoshop. but even the best editor has to have a good image to start. they are editors not magicians.

Yep, as stated, it all starts with the photography and execution itself. The photographer is the one with the knowledge and vision, his crew does the execution, and his model does the... well, modeling. Pro photographers use photoshop and other software to edit or enhance and tweak around with minor flaws, but that's about it.

Adobe Photoshop CS4, which costs from $180-$500. expensive but worth it

I use Photoshop Elements. It might be a little bit cheaper than CS, but I think it's a little bit more "beginner friendly" so you might not get the professional tools.
