In Windows Vista: Cannot install printer driver?

I just bought a computer with Vista and am trying to install a photo printer. I have the disc that came with the printer. I've also downloaded a driver from the printer's manufacturer. I keep getting the message, "The version of present Windows cannot install a printer driver." What does this mean, and how can I get the printer to work?

This error is common. it means that the driver does not support windows vista, it may only support XP or below XP operating systems. just contact the printer company, they might have provide you with driver that supports vista.

DriverBoost is nonsense, the driver package was already downloaded! The best attempt is to run the EXE and see if it installs. If not, it will at least extract the actual driver files (most likely to a C:\HP..... folder), and then manually update the driver selecting the extracted location as the source for the driver.
