Why do Soldiers go out and get shitfaced while in Cammies?

Well theres the obvious reason that for the ladies but you have dress and service uniforms if you really want them to know your in the military. Now Im a sgt in the Marines and ive had to stop and put gas when coming back from work thats when that was ok but now we dont wear them anywear thats not work. What im really getting at though was i was on bourbon street in new orleans on saturday and me and my other Marine buddy wanted to kill this douchebag specialist who was giving beads from his cargo pockets, with no cover and stickers all over his uniform like you all dont have enough stupid patches. Can someone answer me though i mean whats the thought process on that and please no Army Vs Marines bs. Maybe another Sgt can tell me what he thinks

Update:

Wow that firs comment is so stupid maybe you didnt read ima MARINE

I live near an Army Training area and see soldiers out on Family Day or on pass on a regular basis. Most are well behaved and act accordingly, but I've had to get on a few guys.

The worst was about a half-dozen of mechanics that were given a pass that were outside of a large mall. They were waiting for a shuttle to take them back. Most of the soldiers had bought IPODs and were listening to them, which I was willing to overlook, but one high-speed individual was hanging from a lamp post with his BDU top off. I approached the soldier and asked him what would his NCOs think of his behavior, when he told be to "F**k off". I leaned in close and whispered to him that I was an instructor at the same post he was in AIT at and that I'll remember his name to let his NCOs know what a great example he was setting. He apparently didn't believe what I said, because he didn't stop what he was doing.

You should have seen the look on his face the following Monday when he saw me in BDUs talking to his NCOs.

I'm not a hard-a**, I just don't appreciate someone who doesn't wear the uniform with respect because of the negative impression it makes on those that are in the military.

My Husband was in New Orleans, (also a Marine) this past month, I'm not a Sgt. nor is he, it's just a different branch, Army is more lax as in you can wear your camies just about anywhere, where its Marine rule not to wear yours out unless there is an event or something to the sort. Honestly I'm sure he was just trying to be a jackass, and be cool. Where as be glad you have more pride to be able to walk and know your a Marine with higher class in civies, Than any moron demeaning one of his uniforms.

I am a former Sgt USMC and when I was in (70's) we were not allowed to go anywhere in camies, except as you say, it was ok to get gas etc. The Army is different and they have differnt rules, so while I don't approve they are still "in uniform" by their standards.

I live in New Orleans now and know exactly what you are talking about. There are a lot of National Guard personnal in N.O. and they are really pigs.

If it was just the one GI then he was WAY out of line and should get his pee pee whacked for it. But if it was a it more than three or four then there is a real problem and serious break of regs. Now I know that all military personnel are human and that occasionally they f*ck up. But with so much of the world putting the US under a microscope these days, an incident as small as this could really give us a black-eye. Either way, it should have been reported.

First, the Marines have stricter uniform standards.. While Marines are not authorized to go out and wear their BDUs whenever they want, Soldiers may be authorized to wear their ACUs when they want.

Obviously you're not supposed to go out and get drunk while in any uniform, but hey... Just like any service, the Army has those attention loving kids.

He might've not even been in the Army.

    I think it was either:

    A. A poser that wasn't in any service.

    2. Someone no longer actively serving and making a fool of himself.

    c. An idiot in the reserves/Nat'l Guard that should know better.

A soldier is not authorized to drink while in uniform unless they are in either Class A or Bs. And to become intoxicated while in uniform is unacceptable.

I would've laughed my *** off at the fool, I understand what you are saying. I really don't understand what the thought process on wearing a pair of raggedy ACUs out on the scene is, they can still spot you as military with your haircut from a mile away if you are looking for the ladies.

I don't know if I would've gotten to fists over it, though, but things like this are making us all look like trash.

Just because one or two soldiers do something stupid doesn't mean all soldiers do. Every branch has their morons

But it is probably a good thing you didn't go fight him because it would have made you both look bad, fighting in public and all

    Alcohol + Liberty= Stupidity.

It doesn't matter what branch. The equation is always the same.
