Size for basic Sliders is a body length: 6-8" is average for males, up to 12 inches max for females, but average is about 9 to 10“ in captivity.

Life span: 15-25+ year’s plus. Males have the longer front nails and are used in mating. And are considered mature at about 5 yrs old. You can’t start sexing till about 3” across.

Remember 10 gallons for every inch of PER turtle.

They NEED calcium and protein they get it from the fish meat and the fish bones. Drop 20 or 30 or so feeder guppies or small goldfish or minnows they maybe a bit fast for babies at first just drop in the tank and watch them disappear in a few days.

Plus I also feed dried cubed blood worms or tubiflex worms or pellets at least 5 times a week for my five..

They can have garden worms which I collect after a good rain and dump them in the pond, also meal worms, snails, crickets, flies, crayfish small frogs, slugs, tadpoles, ghost shrimp , dragon flies and anything that moves, but only as a treat.

They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 4 to 5 times a week.

They love grapes and strawberries and squash , apples cut up..

    I wish you luck!!!

A female grows larger than a male. A female usually gets about 8-12 inches. A male usually about 8 inches. This depends on the environment that is provided. They need to live outdoors in a pond w/ filteration, rocks for basking, and some shade. You need to feed them a proper diet too. If your turtle lives indoors it needs a basking site w/ a reptile basking heat bulb, an ultraviolet light, filteration, a heater in water, and proper diet w/ added suffitient calcium and multivitamins.

Every turtle varies in growth. How large is the turtle yoou have. If it's a juvenile, about 4 inches. It will grow to it's full size slowly. A two inch baby, however, will grow to about 4 inches in a year or two. Redears can live for well over 20 yrs so they grow slowly.

Please read about their proper care, ect. before you purchase one if you are thinking about buying one. Turles that do not receive the proper lighting, vitamins, etc. will develop calcium deficientcy, eye problems, and stunted growth, just to name a few

well i have a red eared slider in a tank that is 50 gallons big and he/ she lived for 5 years so far. you can tell if the turtle is a male or female by the cloaca. on the male the cloaca is straight and farther away from the body. but the females cloaca is closer or against the body. the cloaca is also called the tail or the back end of a turtle. my turtle is called buckshell. my family had 2 turtles but one died. i did not know wether shelly or bucky died so we combined the name and came up with buckshell. at first i thought that it was a weird name but i got used to it over the years.
