when the great majority of citizens enjoy excellent wages, the wealth of the nation increases more so than it would if the wages were lower. moreover when all of a nation's citizens either live well or are protected by caring programs, not only the financial wealth but also the moral standing of its government and business leaders is enhance.

if they have good wages, they will spend more money, which increases the "wealth of the nation"
if they are "protected by caring programs", they will be happy and content with their government and businesses
