A 2002 Dodge Dakota makes a grinding noise in the transmission. It seems to shift find but sounds bad. Started occasionally now does it all the time. What could be the cause?

Sorry its an automatic.

Is it an automatic or a standard? If it's a standard it's just your gears wearing out, it'll need to be replaced soon. Will cost about $1-2,000 for a new one + labor.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee does the same thing(same transmissions) but its been doing it for the last 30,000 miles and still works fine so i dont think you really need to worry. You probably have internal transmission damage but it aint worth paying the money to fix it if it will go many more years before giving out. Just change the fluid(Chrysler ATF+4 ONLY) and filter, and be sure to put in 1 quart of "Lucas Transmission Stop Slip" when you do the change, it will help thicken up the new fluid. Many times a tranny flush will blow your trans because the new fluid is too thin, Lucas helps prevent that.

id might desire to ask did it honestly want ball joints put in it, and did they verify the rear wheel bearings on it,that's frequently what reasons the grinding noise in them that or loose brake shoes, you will possibly desire to locate a optimistic save it quite is established with what their doing thus far i don't think of the two save scored a a million out of a achieveable ten, stable good fortune.
