How did you injure them? When I bruised my rib, I fell on top of a TV stand, and I couldn't breathe for a few moments. If it just feels tender, it's probably bruised. A bruise on my ribs hurt the most of anything else I've ever done, including accidentally stapling my thumb, slicing my foot with pruning shears, and nearly concussing myself. Trust me, you would know if you had bruised your rib.

Yes bones are living organs and can be damaged and hurt, but usually unless broken the pain you feel is torn cartiledge between the intercostal spaces that holds the ribs together and support their structure, it takes about 2-3 weeks to feel tops again.
