What do I put for "occupation" when filing taxes?

Your sister could have claimed you as a dependent. She could have put you down as a dependent but she also could have claimed head of household with a non dependent but probably she did claim you as a dependent. That does not mean that you can not file a tax return yourself. You can file and as long as your income is under a certain level then you will get all of your federal withholding back if your income is over a certain level then you will get some of withholding from the federal government back but not all of it back. Well sir when you usually fill these software forms then there are certain categories available in those boxes.if u can send me the list of those then it will be easy for me to suggest you.

Incase there is not such list then you can write about your last job which you used to do in past or just write UNEMPLOYED. but make sure that writing unemployed should not have any concern with legallity of software

I put "Flying Spaghetti Monster" a couple of years ago. Never heard a word on that from the IRS. They have NO sense of humor there. Statistically that relegated me to the "other" category. <sigh!>

since the information is just used for statistical purpose, you can put anything you like, including all the suggestions above (yeah, even Jedi if you want).

I'd use 'Manager', because god knows, it takes a manager to keep a household working smoothly.

You should write:

"Well I stay home and take care of the kids and my wife works. It's really a non-traditional family."
