Help with anti virus software please :)?
I'm currently using BitDefender 2008 (looked online last year and it seemed to have many positive reviews) but it's coming up to renewal time.
Should I stick with BitDefender and get the 2009 software or should I look at changing to something else that may be better?
And please do not recommend any free anti-virus software, i'm a great believer that you pay for what you get. I.e you pay nothing = you get nothing, so I would never use it.
Call me an idiot etc but many free anti-virus software come with their own spyware so i want to stay well clear thanks :)
To Expert Help:
I just don't understand why, in this day and age, people would produce a completly free Anti-Virus software that anyone can use, that has no hidden spyware etc. When all other companies are profiting from it...

Avira is good, the software keeps wanting you to upgrade to premium, but FREE version never runs out. Does a great job on web pages and script threat detection too.

The free anti-virus companies use their free versions as an introducion to their other versions or offers.
There is nothing wrong with the free versions... if there was, they would never sell upgrades or other versions.
They understand that everyone should protect their PC and so offer basic versions to everyone, which will perform very adequatey for the average to lower end usage user.
I have use AVG and Avira for many years and have been perfectly happy with what they provide and have never has any issues with viruses attacking my systems.
Most companies offering free usage do so ONLY to the single computer user, forcing the large corporations to pay for their versions wich I think is a very good way of gaining popularity with the home user.

There are a lot of different ideas about what is the best antivirus software on the market. I tried a lots of AV programs. The best for me is Avira, the latest version is amazing, it's realiable, safe. You can get it for free here http://bit.ly/1r2fILd

The REASON there are free versions of anti-virus software - is that the commercial versions (which are EXACTLY the same) are PAID for by the businesses that use them !
AVG is a prime example - they produce the free home edition, and charge for their commercially licenced version !

Don't listen to all the other people who recommend free version's. Their rubbish and look cheap. They recommend AVG (Free) that has a 81% detection rate. I recommend Kaspersky Internet Security (Paid) 99.8% detection rate. Don't get the free security pay for something that will protect you, which in my case i would recommend Kaspersky to you.
