He wrote well over two operas!

I think his THREE most famous operas are:

Die Zauberflote (In some ways this popularized the German language in music, the opera also showed a change in the style of Mozarts music. In that way it is, I think, significant.)

Le Nozze Di Figaro (This is the sixth most performed opera in America. The roles in it are standard repertoire for all voice types. (Susanna, and the Countess for soprano, Cherubino and Marchellina for mezzos (and contralto but they arent often used.) Bartolo for tenors, Il Conte for baritones. Figaro for Basses (bass-baritones))

Don Giovanni (Again this is standard repertoire. Da Ponte adapted his libretto to avoid censorship... If you ever read the libretto youd get what I mean, like in todays society Don Giovanni wouldnt necissarily be portrayed as he was back then (Maybe Giovanni would only have been "shunned" instead of being sent to hell)

Opera America publishes a list of the 20 most performed operas in America, and all three of these operas are listed on it. (Mozarts other opera Cosi Fan Tutte, is also on the list)

Mozart wrote over 20 operas during the course of his all-too-brief lifetime.

The best of the best are (in no particular order):

    The Marriage of Figaro

    Don Giovanni

    Cosi fan tutte

    The Magic Flute

22 but not all were finished works (and a few of those are better qualified as oratorio, perhaps..). In 2006 the Salzburg Summer Festival stage all of it (the unfinished ones, like Zaide, were touched up by modern composers) and video taped them for posterity. The whole thing is available on Amazon and other online selling sites if you search for 'M22 opera.' I wouldn't recommend buying the whole thing. The staging in some of them were pretty darn awful.
