Anyone experience an exploding intake manifold on a buick v6 engine? Mechanics please : )?
Buick Regal 1998 V6 - intake exploded on start...manifold and cover shattered and holes blown through. Google search shows this is not uncommon on this engine, but cannot find any reason why...Any Mechanics out there who may have an answer?
Thank you!

I thoiught I was the only one, that this happened to. Though, mine, wasn't that new. Mine, was a 1965 Dodge D-800 tow truck. Mine, has a 413 cubic inch V-8, and, dual exhausts. Mine, would start, at the exhaust manifolds... These would get cherry-red hot, and, then, BOOM!!! Everything, would fly appart. replaced thart engine, six times, and, had the same problem. What I ended up doing, was buying a larger radiator, which ran more antifreeze, through the engine block. That fixed my problem, anyway. Now, onto yours... I have had three of those Buick Regal's with the V-6 engine, and, mine, did the same, as yours did, as well. Being, that yours is in the intake manifold, I would say, that there is a issue, with the fuel system, or the M.A.P ( Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor is bad. Check out your entire fuel system, carefully, and, also, have a look at, your M.A.P (Manifold Absolute Pressure), sensor, or the relay, as well. While you are at it, have a good look, at all your sensors, and, the relays, as well. Check the amount of fuel, that the fuel pump, is putting out. Also, you may want to consider, the fuel pressure regulator. Mine, turned out to be, the M.A.P. (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor.

i never had that to happen before. i have a 88 oldsmobile V6, 3800 engine but it never did that. sounds like too much gas built up in it and exploded. it could be the fuel pump regulator.
