What could cause a scrubbing noise coming from my right rear wheel?

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx with 60,000 Miles. When braking it has a scrubbing noise coming from the right rear wheel. (4 wheel disc brakes)

I thought maybe a wheel bearing, but wouldn't you hear it all the time?

Wheel bearing you should hear in motion. Brakes could just be wearing out on the rear or foreign object between caliper and disc. Chev. used to add brake squealers to alert drivers to pad wear. These are normally hear in reverse and are very high pitched sounds. Have someone pull the wheel - I've towed cars for a gravel stuck in the system and it would be more noticeable when you brake.

Don't quote me on it, but I think Chevy uses a sealed wheel bearing on the rear of their Malibu's--may be worn. Also may be a pad wearing faster than normal and it's down to the rivets. Pull the wheel and check it out.

it could be the pads are worn down to the rotors or the backing plate got bent and rubbing on the rotor.

Hi you need new pads or the anti rattle spring.
