How do you generate power on forehand?

My question is for those who have a full western grip. How do you generate power and hit flat using a full western grip?. I find it hard to hit winners. Pls help.

The big thing with a full western grip is shoulder rotation! I understand what your saying about trying to hit the ball flat, only people with a full western can fully understand this!

A good thing to do as your striking is to step into the ball as you take your backswing, this is a good way to generate power through putting your whole bodyweight behind it!!

You dont always need to be hitting winners though, you should remember that an opponent will lose his fighting spirit alot faster is you get him to make forced errors!

    Thanks for the question!

Hope i helped, and keep playing our great game!!

Okay. Well. To start out, I've never hit a flat shot with a full western. The way the grip is forces me to have some spin on the ball. Is all in the lower body. Meaning bend. To generate power, try cocking you elbow back. This grip did me no good so I switched to midwestern/semi western. You can get a lot or power from that grip.

you asked if you should swing harder, yes.. that would help somewhat, but to hit a hard shot what you really need to do is put your whole body into the shot. make sure you move forward when you hit the shot and follow through with your weight going forward. don't be afraid to jump when you hit the ball, because in that case you know that you're using your whole body. don't do anything with your wrist, make sure that it's firm throughout the shot, or else you might injure your wrist. and make sure that you turn your shoulder all the way, almost having your back to the ball before you hit it. (: ohh, and make sure that you bend your knees when getting ready to hit the shot, because then you have somewhere to go when you finish, instead of just standing straight throughout the whole shot (: and sometimes, if you have a great form, it doesn't even feel like you are hitting the ball hard, but in actuality, you are. which would be why your friend makes it look so effortless. (: hope this helps!! (:

It's all in the rotation, your shoulders are key. They must travel 180 degrees, to use this to the fullest the rest of your body must follow suit. Legs need to be bent and contact point needs to be infront of you, and most importantly your eyes must watch the ball at all times because the contact point is important for any shot in tennis! The way my coach explains it is load explode land. Load is for loading up your body weight and exploding is for when you rotate ( since most pros load up so much that they explode off of the ground ) and your body does the full rotation, and land is self explanitory. Watch any good pro and you will know what I am talking about. ( roger federer is a perfect example)

to hit winners you dont have to hit hard, you have to work on placement and accuracy. but to hit hard try putting less spin to the ball and a little more flat, also have a good follow through and help your arm with body rotation..

I used to have that problem too. Now, i twist the racket so that is facing the otherside of the court. I then just hold it quite close to my body and hit by just rotating my body, and a short swing with my arm. I think the key is no wrist flick.

(I'm no coach, and I taught myself this, so you might be better of just asking a coach.)

you don't hit flat when using a full western grip...if you want more power, try to it your stroke more forward

use your legs and body not just your arms.

bend those knees and twist that body; come up and untwist going forward as you are striking the ball
