Rossi, Again (MotoGP)?

I Know Rossi was Paid 2.5 Million for the monster sponsorship. 2 little logo's on his helmet. (No problem with that, the visual display will pay for itself) But .... Do you think taking a drink from the container during the National anthem. is going a bit too far. where is the respect ?

Update:

Sorry folks couldnt get on here yesterday, it kept saying the question was deleted.

Firstly, Im not against Rossi, Its simply I thought the point of the anthem was a Nations salute to the sportsperson for that event. in recognition for representing there country.

Girl racer, Stoner did shake hands on the podium. it was just the heat of the moment in the paddock. Not the same thing. Iv never seen anyone completely disregard the winning National anthem before. I think it was definitely pre-meditated. and it did its job. I noticed for one.

as for whos the best. they put a new date on the trophy every year. so as far as im aware, until the end of this season Rossi holds all bragging rights.

Richard, I dont Stand and salute anymore either. But I do shut up and wait.

I must be getting old.

Update 2:

Sorry to hear that Vitor. I will try not to spoil any of the races for you, by giving away results

That's the problem with the youth of today no bloody respect for anything, in my day we have stood to attention and saluted the raising of the flag then waited to be told we could move again,

Seriously though I didn't see the ceremony so can't really comment on what Rossi did or did not do, however as others have stated no sportstars seem to respect the Anthem's any more, laughing, joking, pointing at the mechanic's etc, did he move the container round to make the monster logo clearly visible to the camera or just take a swig.

But I feel to many of todays so called sport stars are too full of their own self importance these days and show no respect to anyone or anything.

I didn´t see the podium ceremony, just the photos where he is holding the mentioned bottle.

In his defense I must say a race in Qatar (even at night) should be really hard on your hydration so afterwards riders are always super-thirsty. I reckon he was having a sip of Gatorade and not an energy drink.

On the other hand at podiums riders are usually handed with a generous bottle of Freixenet Cava, but not in Qatar.. so perhaps it was not the best thing to do at that moment, but I do not find it disrespectful

I agree with you about this nonsense arguments about who is the best rider. That is why they RACE !! The best one right now is the reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi,

Rossi i think of remains the fashionable if he does not get injured back. Hayden is an extremely stable rider, yet whilst he can not truthfully win some greater races this year he ought to no longer repeat. different then those 2 its truthfully achieveable there might properly be a winner who wasn't Rossi/Hayden this year.

    Hello Proc,

My theory on this is that he probably has a different view on whether drinking while listening to the national anthem is a lack of respect, but that's just my theory though heheh ;)

I didn't have the chance to see the race yet because, after all, MotoGP will not be transmitted on Eurosport over here.... It moved to an expensive pay channel :P, which means I'll have to watch it the day after on my computer ;)

    Cheers!

Hi Proc, the Beeb decided advertising upcoming sports on the bbc was more important than showing the national anthem, you could only hear it in the back round, does seem a bit rude though, maybe he just forgot himself, though he did seem very attached to the can while the post race paddock interview took place.

I disagree Rossi is one of the greatest riders of all time and has done a huge amount for the sport.

I think the crowd booing Casey Stoner last year when he won the race because Rossi didnt is alot worse by far.

I don't think there is much respect for anthems any more. A lot of sportspersons never sing their own national anthem.

Good question, but as the saying goes,"theres no such thing as bad publicity.Virtually all t.v. hinges on advertising these days, hence i.t.v. steadily going down the pan thru lack of it during the recession! Don,t forget these two guys are trying to score points against each other OFF the track too.Personally I think it stinks.

Well you know what they say BLACKDOG ?

It takes a bigger one - to know one !!!!!

AND - just to correct your misinformed judgement -

Rossi doesn't THINK he's the best ...... He Knows he's

the best - as does Casey Stoner !

Unfortunate as it may be for both yourself and Casey -

he can only ever be "better" than Rossi - once he holds

at least 1 or MORE titles than Rossi currently DOES !!!

    LOL - "Rossi's time is over - there's a new master now -

    It's the Stoner Age !!! " - Well it's NOT happened yet ! -

I'm pleased that you're as enthusiastic as last year !!!!

HOWEVER - In answer to your question Mr Proc -

I'm afraid I find this act no more disrespectful than

refusing to shake the hand of a winning opponent !! -
