Why do some men have a problem with female auto mechanic?
Im an full time auto mechanic and I love it but this really bugs my husband for no reason. Sometimes I do little remodels on our car just for fun or cause im bored and I usually take off my wedding band to do so (don't want to loss it). Then my hubby gets at really annoyed with me cause I don't wear my ring. Then we start fighting about it and me coming with bigger pay check then his.
At work almost of my coworker are guys (who don't know that im married. I don't share things at work) who think I belong in a kitchen making dinner. They never said that to my face but I did overheard stuff like this a few times and Im use to it. Why do some men have a problem with me not being "lady like" (as my dad puts it) cause this is getting quite sad.

Only sissy boys are afraid of strong women and women in traditionally male jobs.
It sounds like a pretty ugly workplace, you don't even share enough to let the coworkers know you are married?
I am in the kitchen making dinner now because it makes sense for our family at this point in time. My wife is working. No problems but I get ragged on sometimes for doing the non-traditional thing. I have no trouble at all with it but then again my wife is loving supportive and just as respectful now as she was last year when I made huge money doing contract work in Afghanistan.

Speaking from experience (Auto Tech was my major, and no, I don't look like a boy at all and I'm not a lesbian), it takes a LOT more to prove yourself as a good tech than it does for a guy. If you are really good at what you do, you'll be fine. If you are just so-so, you'll sink. Shop managers don't want women in the shop because, let's face it, technicians are like sailers in how they talk. They rudely complain about their wives/girlfriends, they swear up a storm, they get mad and throw things. They're kinda like barbarians. You throw a woman into that, and you have to worry a lot more about sexual harassment. If you take two people, equally qualified, one female and one male, the shop manager will almost always hire the male. It's easier, less of a headache, he fits in better. If your program requires an internship, try to do it at a dealership, and make a good impression so you can work there after you graduate. Dealerships have much better training programs, better pay, better advancement opportunities. Independent shops pretty much throw you out in the wind. Personally, I don't have a problem with female technicians. But I still run across a lot of men that can't handle it or don't like it. It will always be a male-dominated profession, and because of that, a lot of men won't trust your abilities. When I worked at Lexus, there was a woman that worked on Jaguars (same building, different makes all under one roof), but I'm 97% sure she was transgender and started life as a man...still, she was a really good technician

It sounds like the problem is not that you're a mechanic, I think your hubby is jealous. He seems jealous that 1) you make more money than him 2) you work with a bunch of men and 3) you're not wearing your wedding ring, so he probably thinks you're cheating on him or something. You should just out right ask him what the problem is, and do everything you can to affirm him. Tell him how manly he is, and how much you need and love him. Overly praise something he does well, like if he's good at gardening lavish him with praises about how beautiful the yard looks, and how he does a good job of repairing things around the house. He's just insecure, so its now your job to let him know he's the only man for you.

Let start this by saying this, I'm a man and I am a mechanic. I think if a woman can do the job then DO IT ! When my wife asked me how to do something on the car I was pleased to teach her something, I see it like this if she knows how to fix some things on the car she wouldn't be on the side of the road broken down waiting for someone to help her git the car going. And I like to cook so some women can say that I belong out under the hood the car. But you haven't tried my home made bread.

if you love it and your good at it, don't worry about what people say. Also, I find it to be very sexy, a female mechanic, very hot. Additionally, I don't wear my wedding ring because of my profession(veterinarian), but as long as I wear it when I'm not working my wife has no problem with it. Don't let those bastards get you down.

If I was dating/married to a female auto mechanic I would brag about it.

I know exactly what you mean! I was a female Army mechanic. They're just intimidated. Be proud!

Same reason my mother hates when I wear my hair in a ponytail and my husband shutters when I'm vulgar.
Doesn't stop me though.

Because men are idiots and most of them are insecure. You keep on doing what you love and what you're good at. Screw all of them!
