At college, I use the "Word" application under the newest version of Microsoft Office.?
However, at my house, I have Microsoft Word (from the year 2003 I believe).
I'm trying to finish up my essay from home, but my trial of Microsoft Office has expired and is locked up.
My computer won't let me open my essays from anything other than the newest version of Microsoft Word.
Is there a way I can fix this?

You can get Office 2003 to read and write the new Office 2007 files with the free Microsoft Compatibility Pack. If .docx files still refuse to launch Word 2003 when double-clicked, try opening them from inside Word 2003 with the File->Open dialog box instead.
Hope that helps.

If your trial version has expired you can't use it at all.
You can try to download the trial again, but that may not work.
When saving at work save the file as 97-2003.
You may be able to open the file at the library or a friend's PC.

At school, save as Word 97-2003, and your Word at home will be able to read the file. Or install the compatibility pack - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA100444731...
