Why doesn´t the UN invade Somalia?
There are ships from at least 12 countries trying to stop piracy near Somalia. They say the ocean is too vast to cover effectively. But everyone knows the pirates are coming from Somalia and that Somalia does not have a functioning government. Why doesn´t an international force invade and subdue Somalia and attack the pirates at their base?
* It is interesting to see the Iraq effect here. Iraq may have been a mistake (only time will tell really), but there are times when military action is the only solution. Also, Somalia is a country run by warlords. How many of the people there do you think are really "innocent"? Even so, who said anything about destroying people? I only proposed sending in military forces and putting the country in order, not mass murder -- though warlords and their hoards would have to be arrested or killed.
** World War II happened because the free world was tired of war after WW1. If the military from the free world had been used earlier, tens of millions of lives would have actually been saved. Talking and negotiation are the not the solution with everyone.

Pirates are everywhere, not just Somalia. The Somali pirates just 'fell into' a way to hijack ships and crews and get paid MILLIONs for them. If countries (the UN; good luck on the UN agreeing to anything except that the US is evil) actually do something against the pirates, other pirates in other parts of the world will simply continue doing the same thing.

Yeah that will be a good way to represent the UN. destroying an entire land full of innocent people just because a few idiots decided to attack the US navy.

Because we don't need another international incident. We need to be rebuilding not destroying. You'll never stop the Pirates just like you'll never stop terrorists.
