What do you think about Family Guy?
I just want to know if some of you have to agree with what I think this show represents. I believe it is a complete refection of the way our American society lives, from religion to race and the way we tend to worship celebrities and pop culture. What do you all think this show represents?

This show doesn't represent a complete reflection of American society, because unfortunately, most of us aren't that funny. What this show does is poke fun at American society, and it does it very well.
It completely overshadows 'The Simpson's' as a satirical masterpiece, although 'Family Guy''s family has a very similar make-up - that of a drunk father, mother, son, daughter, baby, and a dog. However, the difference is that FG takes it to a new level, with much fresher ideas and better writers than 'The Simpson's'. Now, don't get me wrong, as I'm a fan of both shows, but given a choice, I'd watch 'Family Guy' any day.
If you put too much thought into what this show actually represents, I think you're thinking too much. Enjoy it for what it is - sarcastic, biting humor.

It's like watching someone age without grace. Family Guy was once the greatest show on television. Now it's just sad. Before the writers' strike, I used to laugh off the religious jokes because they were at least funny. Now they're just insulting. I really don't need Brian's ultra-liberal atheism, which has turned him from the series' most likable character into someone I hope gets hit by a bus.
It's just not funny now. The Jesus episode was infuriating, the lack of any continuing storyline (nobody cares how Lois got fired? Screw off!) is worthless and the show's gone downhill big time. I watch reruns, but I don't watch new episodes.

I agree. It is a satire of our american culture. One of the things that makes it so funny is that we all have done or know someone who has done what the characters represent on tv. Even if it is something offensive, we all know that it's the truth, even if we don't want to admit it. It is obvious that our culture is the inspiration for most of the humor in the show, considering the fact that many things that are happining in the world are refrenced (in all aspects, pop culture, law, etc.) FOr example I just saw an episode where peter and his family are running out to buy an HDTV for the switch to digital. COme on that is obviously in refrence to whats happening. Also around the same time that brittney shaved her head, Peter was trying to get in touch with his femine side and there was a scene where he was shaving his head. Ok ok i can go on and on but the refrences to our culture are obvious. So yeas it is a reflection of american society.

I agree with you that the show is all of that, but Family Guy is unique in that the two characters who normally would not be able to talk do so and in the case of Stewie is only understood by we the audience and Brian. The two characters who should not even be able to talk.
In many ways Family Guy is like a remake of "The Honeymooners".
Once again we have a fat slob who is an underachiever but in inexplicably married to a woman who normally would have been way out of their league. A lot of people don't realize it but "The Flintstones" was a remake of "The Honeymooners". Barney was like Norton on the Honeymooners.

It's way more disgusting than The Simpsons. I can watch The Simpsons and laugh out loud but with Family Guy They eather toss in something too gross or I just don't get the joke.If it represents anything I don't want to know.

It is. Just like Married with Children and the Simpsons were realistic. Most people don't live a life like the Cosby Show and Leave it to Beaver.

I think it is funny at times, very inappropriate at other times, sometimes they say things that are unneccessary rough on things/situations/people, but it is nice to watch once in a while. It does have some funny moments, and the fact that it is oriented towards adults makes it a nice change if you also watch "regular" cartoons.

I can't believe some station air the re-runs between 5 and 7 pm. I'm not much of a fan of it as I don't see the humor, meanwhile I laugh like crazy at the Simpsons.... oh well
