Does anyone know what game im talking about?

Well its been a very long time since ive played the game..It was on Playstation 1, (lol yes that long ago) And well i cant remember much...I remember the first level was something like...Im this old guy... And than im in this big robot roaming around in this desert kinda looking place...And i have these little things (look like square yellow headed robots) and if i aim and shoot...they will go towards that place do what they have to do.. (like, Attack, Scout, or etc.) And than as i progress I battle these long legged Robot looking things...After which I arrive to some temple (All the time i had this teenage looking girl as my HUD helper..She would send messages telling me where to go and etc) and i know this isnt very specific but please i really want to know the game..After i reach the temple i start fighting these robots (using my laser canon and The little robots) but than a tragic accident means i die...And than the game starts from there...The girl from the HUD takes over and than its like you have to mission by mission... And you can send scouts to scout for whatever! in different places from the HQ ... And different rooms in the HQ (which you can visit) etc. Please? If you need more details Just ask.
