Are the Tea Parties more positive or negative than previous anti-war protests I see people referring to?

I ask because I didn't go to the anti-war protests but I'm going to the Tea Parties. I haven't seen anything negative so far or threatening at any of the Tea Parties I've been to... something I see accusations about in various places... but all I saw during the anti-war protests were these sorts of images: http://www.capveterans.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/mi...

It's a serious question, I'm curious to know why things like that are excusable but the Tea Parties are not. I know I have a bias towards the Tea Parties and anything can be twisted out of context by people who are too radical in one direction or the other, but I think I'm fairly level headed and straight forward. What am I missing? I genuinely want to know.

If you say something to the effect that it's just a few hateful people, please understand that's a door that swings both ways when you're saying it.

Update:

I still don't see any answers, just the standard generic rhetoric. I can flip on any talking head and see where the comments are coming from... and I'm the corporate tool... it's the same regurgitated unoriginal drivel. I don't want pre-generated party line rhetoric, I was seriously asking an honest question. I know I am bias towards the tea parties, so I'm hoping someone to give me an answer to why they are different, why that type of stuff in the picture was acceptable but what's happening now is not. Contrary opinions are welcome... even encouraged... but please don't give me MSNBC answers... I want YOUR answer.

You know, everyone likes their Navy and their Army and their state highways and all we have to do is pay our taxes each year. Taxes have hardly increased because of Obama. These tea parties were not held before because Mr. Bush could push taxes on low-income families all he wanted and no one gave a hoot, but this isn't about taxes. It's about protesting the new administration because this lot is a bunch of whiny losers.

I think the tea parties should be called what they really are, a big hate Obama fest.

I kept seeing Glen Beck try to plead that the tea parties were nonpartisan and attacked the policies of Bush as much as Obama, yet I didn't see anyone with any "anti-Bush" T-shirts or banners at the rallies.

If there were, Fox wasn't showing them and neither were any of the "Iiberal" networks.

Last night we were not democrats or republicans. We were AMERICANS! This was patriotic and very positive. There was no hate, except for the waste in Washington and Sacramento.

The silent majority is no longer silent!
