my son is 13 months, and is very sick. he's lost a pound and a half in two weeks?

My son is 13 months old as of yesterday. He has gradually stopped eating over the last two weeks (solid food) he continues to sometimes have bottles of formula, he has diarrhea, a runny nose, he has vomited and he is only again starting to pick at food, but hardly anything (just bananas it seems) he drinks water occasionally, and the doctor i went to yesterday told me to give him antibiotics, which right now I can't buy because I have no money at all until the 20th. She also told me to feed him hard boiled eggs....which is retarded I dont understand that would make him gassy I imagine. I dont know what is wrong with him, he was lethargic for the last week or so laying on me and on the floor during the day, and the last two days he has seemed a little better except he vomited three times last night (my boyfriend says because he was drinking his milk and water too fast, but i was at work so i didn't see) I really dont know what to do I am worried he is a tiny boy for his age he is 20.5 pounds. He was 22 pounds two weeks ago but has lost. I just don't know what I am supposed to do for him. He doesn't seem like he's going to get better, this has gone on so long. He isn't as lethargic but I am still so worried anyone have advice?

Update:

well, i'm not abusing him, the doctor is from another country, and I dont know any doctors that are good that actually will do anything for him. I take him to the fricken hospital and they tell me that all i can do is ride it out. She said its some type of infection and she doesn't even know what it is, but she just gave me antibiotics, i can't buy them because I dont have enough money which again isn't my fault its not like im a crack head or an alcoholic buying stuff for myself i am doing the best i can, i can't get around because I have no money and every clinic i go says "he'll have to ride it out" give him antibiotics, but no one knows whats wrong, so no i am not abusing my son u b***H!!!

Update 2:

thank you to curious you're actually answering my question and not making me feel like a bad person because I haven't made enough money...I am trying to borrow money from a friend right now actually. I wish some of these ppl who answer would actually get a life themselves and get off the computer. I was coming here for advice, not to get lectured, thanks.

If this has been an ongoing problem for 2 weeks now, why haven't you sought medical assistance? Get off Yahoo Answers and go to the doc. I think this one beats the old "Omg I'm in labor, what should I do!!" question. Jeez, this is your child's life...take responsibility for it.

You need to get those antibiotics somehow someway, for his own health.

I'm sure you must be very worried. But children are very resilient and usually a lot of rest and fluids and love is what it takes to make them better. First of all, I would try to call the doctor again and ask if they could give you "samples" of the antibiotic. Many times, doctors offices can do this. Especially if they know that you can't afford to buy the medicine. If they can't, then maybe you could ask how much it would cost to fill it at Wal Mart. Usually antibiotics are cheap (like $2-4 a bottle). I would call your local department of health and human services...they can give you advice and connect you with other agencies that could help. I wish you and your son the best.

What's with you? The doctor should have told you why you need to give your son antibiotics. And if you don't have the money you need to borrow it or let your doctor know so they can give you some samples until you get paid. Better let take you son to the hospital now. You should be ashamed of your self. You do everything in your power to help your son get better. Oh does your boyfriend like your son? because if he throw up three times while you where at work maybe you need to make sure he's not being hurt.

Usually with a infection he will have a fever that won't go away. If he does look at his tummy and see if it looks bigger than normal- lightly push around on it and make sure he is not in any pain any where. If he is tender I would get a second opinion to make sure he does not have a appendicitis or something.

If he doesn't have a fever he might have the flu - with the flu you should try to keep him away from dairy and give him pedalite - or you can mix his formula half and half pedalite.

Keep him well hydrated - stills has wet diapers and cries tears.

Hopefully you will be able to borrow money - the antibiotics should help shorten his illness.

I hope he gets better, I know it is scary when your baby is sick.

This is your child's LIFE! You can actually be reported to Child Services for not treating a medical condition. This equals child abuse if you are allowing this child to suffer like this for 2 weeks. That is inexcuseable.

Get off the computer and on the phone with your doctor and ask WHY he is requiring antibiotics and what the diagnoses is. And tell the doctor you have no money for the meds and find out what assistance you can get. This is URGENT !
