I have a ten gallon tank with a 20 gallon filter three comets and a few loaches...within a day and a half....?
the stones and shells are growing a green film, as is the side of the tank..... The water temp is correct(around 73) and feeding has not changed in over a month, nor fish. What is going on? Light on overly, or not enough? HELP HELP HELP! one of the goldies is like family.
I will say you have all been SOOO helpful, i have learned that i am leaving the light on way longer than I should. The one "family" comet is thumb length, the other two are teeny tiny "local carnival" fish. I realize they have large bio loads, i thought that was why the pet shop recommended the three dojo loaches(weather fish)?

Don't Worry, Its Just Algae! :] Every fish tank will get it eventually if the tank is exposed to light. Try not to have the tank light on more than 7 hours and avoid direct sunlight. You can also purchase algae blocks which help with the control. Your comet's will graze on the algae, but of the algae takes over it is possible it could kill live plants in the aquarium, due to the plant not getting enough light. Get a magnetic cleaner to clean it from the glass, the filter will suck it up! :]
Good Luck!

If sounds like algae. I would recommend getting something like a rubber lip or bristlenose plecostomus (regular plecos get about 2 feet long!). It will eat the algae that's growing now and will keep if from coming back.
I'd also recommend a bigger tank. Comets and loaches can get 1 foot long. The more room they have, they happier and healthier they'lll be.
Everything seems fine other than that. You have it right with a big filter! Goldfish are dirty fish and the bigger filter makes the water that much better for your fish! Temperature is good. Just make sure that the light is turned off at night and out of direct sunlight. Algae is a plant and uses the light as food. The less light, the less algae.

You have too many gold fish they are heavy waste generator. A 10g can only support 1 comet and no other fish this would work until they got about 4" long then it would need to be moved to a bigger tank.
Be prepared for constant bouts of algae bloom interspersed with "mystery die offs".

I would say it's probably leftover food and maybe some algae or moss. Don't worry too much. It's probably a little too hot and the tank is exposed to sunlight so vegetation is growing.

the green film is just algae which the fish can eat but too much of it in the tank is bad so wash it. and algae is made from water and air in the tank and sunlight.

it fairly is going to outgrow the tank or die attempting. A comet goldfish could strengthen to approximately 12" long, and could desire to stay for 2 an prolonged time. in case you depart it in a 10gal, it fairly is going to grow to be stunted and die upfront. it fairly is ok to start up a small goldfish out in a smaller tank, yet they cant stay there for existence. possibly a 55gal to homestead it for existence, or a pond. someone-friendly mistake is to narrate fish length to tank length. yet a 12" fish isn't 12X the size of a a million" fish. it fairly is easily 12x12x12 circumstances the load, so its easily 1728 circumstances bigger!!! it fairly is allways hungry because of fact it fairly is healthful (sturdy filtering and water differences) and it fairly is doing it fairly is suited to grow to be a foot long monster. long term, you like a bigger tank.
