I'm still trying to figure it out.

"The April 17 amendment to Canada's Citizenship Act automatically restores Canadian nationality to many people forced to renounce it when they became citizens of another country. It also grants citizenship to their children."

Taken at face value, my dad was Canadian so I guess I am as well.

But there's alot of stuff under it that makes it sound typically bureaucratic (& therefore questionable.) When I took the "test" at the Canadian government website it also said in all likelihood I'm now Canadian.

I'm cool with it since it'd obviously make it easier to visit for whenever & however long I feel like (I'd guess) without begging permission. We even have a local Canadian embassy in the city, which seems quite hilarious. (Mental pictures of all the people threatening to leave the country when Bush & then Obama won beating down the doors for "asylum.") I'll probably visit the embassy in the next few weeks just to see. And try not to bust out laughing.

But if they're looking for back or future taxes, well, good luck with that. You can keep it (auto-Dual citizenship) buddy.

I did wake up Canadian today... I'm not sure how I feel, but perhaps a bit different and proud. My dad would be proud to know that I am now a Canadian. I have nicknamed myself Canadiann. Clever....eh???

No, but wouldn't it be nice to at least be invited? I wouldn't mind a year in Canada, but I'm sure I'd eventually move back south. At least I think I would...

I went to bed Norwegian and I woke up Norwegian. I have no Canadian ancestry. I only have Scandinavian (Norwegian and Finnish) and Russian ancestry from my mother. ^^

actually i had canadian bacon on a breakfast sandwich this morning, when i woke up. so i guess in essence i did wake up canadian. if you want to get really technical you can count the french canadian and canadian mi'kmaq blood that pumps through my veins and enables me to wake up in the morning.
