Can someone explain the logic of a Republican telling me "don't like it here, go back to your own country!"?

I'm genuinely curious about this. I'm Dutch, have lived in the USA for almost 2 years now. I fully support Obama, and am very glad with what he has achieved so far, and what he's trying to do.

If agree with him, and when disagreeing with the 'teabaggers' in this section, I get Republicans telling me that if I don't like it here, I should leave the country. Which, of course, made me giggle. In Dutch.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Obama democratically elected? How does me agreeing with a president that was elected by a majority, become "me not liking it here" ?

Wouldn't it make more sense (following their own logic) for those certain Republicans to say "Hey, I disagree with what the majority of the US wants, so I better leave this country myself" ?

Update:

In Vino Veritas: thanks! .....And I know about the hot air, no worries :)

I have tried and tried to write something nice in response to your question.

But all I can think of is "Most Republicans on this site seem to be out of step with the results of the Last Presidential election. That is, they seem to disrespect the results of the free elections recently held here in the United States."

  • Here's something you don't understand Mark. First of all, this is not a democracy, this is a republic which is built on separation of powers. Secondly, because an elected official is elected by the majority, does not give that official the right to do what he or she wants, they still need to adhere to their oath of office, which is to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States, So for you to state, that you are some how a shoe in or have your views legitimized by virtue of the fact that the president was elected by the majority, is disingenuous to say the least. God bless.

Obama was elected by duping this country into a hate the rich mentality and an anti war stance and if you look at the way the country has moved towards war being "okay" that Obama says it is okay and by the way if you voted for Obama you are no longer Dutch you are an American first Dutch second. It matters not to me that you are inclined to believe the hype of Obama what does matter is I hope your papers are in order and make sure you pay your taxes as most Obama followers do not.

Obviously you have not been here long enough to have the love, compassion and patriotism for this country as many of us do. I do not know why a tea bagger as you say said that, though.

One could say he was democratically elected but ACORN had a lot to do with illegal votes. He did not win but by 3%. Plus we have a Constitution that most people have read and studied in school. Our President is not following the rules of our Constitution. Although he was a Constitutional Lawyer. Why has he spent Millions trying not to show his Official Birth Certificate. There are so many questions about this man and his true agenda. Too slick. So many Americans see him as not doing as he said when he was running.

Like No lobbyist in his Cabinet when just about all of his cabinet are lobbyist.

Like no Earmarks when there are over 900 in this outrageous Stimulus Bill.

He was going to go line by line and cut the pork....No he didn't.

Many of us are worried about our children's children's future.

Why borrow money for parks and buy new cars for all Washington group when one is broke. We have to pay interest on this money and we will never be able to pay it back. But Obama 's plan is to tax us so heavily we will be happy to be a socialist nation. We do not want to go there.

Oh, Republicans think like that sometimes. Don't take it personally, it's just that they don't understand the U.S. Constitution .

That part especially, Bill of Rights--Article 1-.Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

You must have heard from ignorant "teabaggers"(?). Most Americans, regardless of their party affiliation, accept and respect their elected officials. It is the remarkable PEACEFUL exchange of power that makes our country great and unique.

I would think if you were to complain about something American, like the food, culture, economy etc, someone would tell you that if you don't like it leave. Maybe you are having trouble understanding the langusge and its nuances.

    Hey!

Technically, all white Americans are immigrants.

So they should go back to their country of origin.

    You should tell them that.

Tell them that The Netherlands is the most progressive nation in the world and they should be ashamed of their attitude to society

Since you're Dutch, you should have a historical perspective on world matters. Don't you find it interesting how everyone on the left has to call the protesters 'tea baggers' and generally ridicule them for their viewpoints over and over again, just like the Nazi's did back in the 1930's to anyone who disagreed with them? Or are young people in the Netherlands as clueless as most young Americans are about history?

Majority? I think not! If you look at the demographics who voted for and against Obama as president (lower case with great intent -- it's far more than he deserves), you will find that the MAJORITY of people who own land voted against Obama. He got the vote by those who do not own land and have nothing to lose but everything to gain -- or so they believe.

Not that I would ever tell you to go "home," but the resounding sentiment by most republicans is one of: we don't want socialism and if you came from a country that had it, then by all means return to it. Don't change what we have here to be more like what you left. If from where you came was so horrible that you had to leave, then why make us more like that place?

Dear Tree Hugging Liberal Lola, The KKK was founded by Democrats. Perhaps you should study your history a little more closely?
