How Long Will Store Purchased Eggs Last In The Refrigerator ...?

I'm eating bacon and sausage with toast but want to add the delicious taste of scrambled eggs to this delightful breakfast/dinner (I eat breakfast anytime, anywhere) and since the wife isn't home I can't ask her how long they've been in the fridge. I would call her but she's with old friends from high school and I really don't want to bother her/them.

Weeks, Months, a Year? I know they've been in there for at least a month so how bout' it? Do I take the plunge?

Thanks and thumbs up for all who answer! Just give me a few minutes to get back and read the answers.

Update:

Did I spell refrigerator wrong? Is it spelled refridgerator? (smiling)

Eggs can be stored in the fridge for about a month after the expiration date. A simple test to see if they are good is the water test. Take a bowl of water and lower the egg into it. If it sinks to the bottom and stays there it is very fresh. If it float to the top it is bad. Any egg that stays on the bottom even if one end is up is still good. Anything that leaves the bottom but does not reach the top is questionable and I discard.

People usually do not know what the experation date means. It is a sell by date which the producer puts on the product to keep the seller rotating the stock. It is not a "bad after" date.

Source(s): I have chicken that free range. Often I don't find the eggs until a week or so after they have been laid.

    Egg Storage.

While eggs will keep in your refrigerator for several weeks, it's important to note that they can lose some quality.

A little known fact about eggs is that they can absorb odours from your refrigerator if stored in an open container, although this shouldn't be a major problem unless you're storing eggs along side opened containers of onions and garlic or other such strong smelly foods.

I ignore the expiration date on eggs .... also a tip is the older the egg, the easier it will be to peel it when it's hardboiled. If you know you're going to make egg salad, use the older eggs for it - the shells peel so much easier than the fresher ones.

Eggs last about 4 to 5 weeks in the refrigerator. Check the carton for a date, if it is past the date, throw them out. Also I would crack at least one of the eggs into a bowl and check if it smells bad before mixing it in with other foods.

It should tell you on the carton when they expire, sometimes its on the egg itself. Loll its refrigerator. =]
