    = £75.00([1 - 0.3][1 - 0.1])

    = £75.00(0.7[0.9])

    = £75.00(0.63)

    = £47.25

Answer: £47.25 is the jacket now.

    Checking:

    = £75.00 - 0.3(£75.00)

    = £75.00 - £22.50

    = £52.50

    = £52.50 - 0.1(£52.50)

    = £52.50 - £5.25

    = £47.25

    Just sale rack (30% off):

    £75 * (1 - 0.3) = £52.5

Sale rack discount plus student discount (40% off):

    £75 * (1 - 0.3 - 0.1) = £45

    OK

    Without discount:

    £52.50

    With:

    £45

    £75. 10% = 7.50

    7.5 x 3 = 22.50

    75-22.50 = 52.50

    75-30 = 45

    without student discount: £52.50

    WITH student discount: £45

aha i'm happy now, my GCSE is next month and i could do that really easily :)
