Someone like me, a bullsheeter, a person that guides a spiritual newbie through a new experience. Usually involves fire, meditation and or drugs. The best parts are covens of nubile young women running around the woods nekkid with knives and other pointy objects under a silvery moon - get it? RScott

A shaman is often a function interior of an area. The tribal shaman is the bridge between worlds, interceding with the spirits on behalf of the tribe. there is incredibly no such factor as a "non-working in the direction of shaman." that must be like a "non-working in the direction of priest." Shaman is a place, not a particular faith, besides the actuality that it does require specific varieties of religion, such because of the fact the life of spirits that express people can work together with. maximum people who call themselves shamans in the Western international (outdoors of interior of sight American tribes) are, incredibly frankly, posers. (please observe I say "maximum." i'm not implying any judgment on the individuals answering this question who declare to be shamans, as i don't be conscious of them.) they think of chewing somewhat peyote or traveling a sweat lodge or taking a weekend non secular retreat makes them a shaman, and its incredibly incredibly disrespectful in the direction of respected shamans. genuine shamans usually placed themselves via significant soreness with the intention to have interplay with the spirits. that's area of the pastime. Wicca is a particular faith with usually common ideals between all practitioners. Its theoretically plausible for somebody to attitude Wicca via shamanic practices, yet in maximum situations it only isn't sensible. between different issues, there usually isn't any diverse community for which the shaman may be working.

One who hasn't gotten it quite right yet?
Actually, you'd have to ask what Shamanistic Tradition they practice in. Native American Shamanism is different (and differs from Tribe to Tribe; just ask an Inuit and a Yaqui) from Mongolian Shamanism.
Shaman is thought to be a Central Asian Turkic word, but it might be more Northerly, Native Siberian (closely related to Inuit) or Manchu. It describes a person who communes with the spirit world through a variety of techniques for the benefit of their people, in order to heal, guide and advise.

I'm guess someone who belongs to the Shaman's Guild and the Shaman Namem Society. However they are Medicine men from native tribes of various countries who mix spells and postions to heal and ward off spiritual nasties (act as spiritual mediators) and who still ply their craft actively. (cf to lawyers - aka - "Scam-men" - and Doctors, who all practice and none are perfect) Wikipedia calls them "Practicioners of Shamanism" - lots to read on there.

Hi, Sptfyr, long time no see. Don't know the answer...but, I agree the word 'practicing' is a funny 'un, as we understand it to be 'learning how to do something' and 'carrying out something expertly'
I'm a practicing poet! (not telling you which one of the above is me)
