Is german the most common ancestry for "white americans"?

i heard 1 out of 4 americans had irish ancestry, and 1 in 6 had italian ancestry.

The most common would be people from Great Britain...

English. Welsh, Scottish, and Irish (before 1919)

Lot's of Germans and Swedes in the Midwest.

Chicago has the largest grouping of Polish people outside of Poland.

But all those ethic groups are mixed in the Great American Melting Pot.

As a side note, I'll like to point out that the Asian to White marriage rate in the United States is higher than the Asian to White marriage.

Other "mixed marriages" are increasingly common.

German immigrants are responsible for beer in America.

And for that I am eternally grateful.

Because maybe the person talking might not know if the person they are talking about is English Irish or German. Like I'm Irish, but a German person might not be able to recognise the accent and might think I'm English.

It is hard to say, but you might be right. As far as the census is concerned, though, the largest single ancestry among white americans is german, but I don't know if they have contributed more or less to the American gene pool than British. I suppose either scenario is definitely possible.

I think too. The overage US American looks more like Dutch or the mentioned Irish populations.

We killed off the Native Americans...so pretty much. M mostly German. Tiny bit Hungarian. Love the paprika.

Irish have a very high population.

1 in 5 is german descendant, white americans are so hot :-)

well wen tons of ppl came to america the germans had the most ppl come over and i think they overtook enlgish ppl
