Diesel Fuel in replacement of Fuel Injector Cleaner for a Gasoline Engine?

Years ago I had witnessed an individual who was filling up his gasoline car put a gallon of diesel in it just before topping it off. Amazed by this I asked him why. He sated that diesel has a natural cleaning agent that would help the cars engine and injectors stay cleaner. I know that you can run a gasoline car with a 16 gallon tank filled with 1 gallon of diesel and the rest with gas will run fine.

My real question is what effect would it have on a gasoline vehicles catalytic converter and O2 Sensor. Would it damage it? And could you use it in replacement of a Fuel Injection cleaner? What are your thoughts.

There are enough detergents in modern gasolines to never need to do something as crazy/stupid as adding any amount of diesel fuel to a gasoline engine. My advice is never try running any amount of diesel in your own gasoline powered car. Ever. Get some fuel injector cleaner designed to work in gasoline engines if you really feel the need to run some injector cleaner through your engine.

IF the diesel fuel mixed into the gasoline is really burning along with the gasoline, the catalytic converter probably wouldn't be harmed (its not like there's lead in diesel fuel to kill the catalyst or anything). Not sure what it would do to the O2 sensor(s), but if it did do anything I'm sure it wouldn't be anything good.

As a side note, have you ever tried to light diesel fuel on fire? It doesn't ignite very easily at all - nothing like if you try the same thing with gasoline. For that reason (among others) I'd leave the diesel as a fuel injector cleaner "trick" to the guy who you saw doing it.

you do not need to clean the injectors on a diesel as the diesel its self does the job just keep the fuel filter clean and no problems all the redex and other cleaners do is put your mind at rest they do nothing for the engine so a wast of money
