What is modeling in the Philippines and S. Korea like?
I'm an 18 year old male, half black half white, and im thinking of moving to either S. Korea or the Philippines. I really want to do modeling or acting. something like that. but im just curious what it would be like in those 2 countries. Especially being foreign and all. What do they look for in their models?

PHILIPPINES
Acting in the Philippines is a big-time industry, and it is said to have one of the world's largest entertainment industries.
Because of historical reasons, and the dominance of people who are mixed Spanish/American and indigenous, most actors and actresses in the Philippines do look White, have fair (or light brown) skin, and have light brown hair.
As you might already know, there are already hundreds of thousands of Americans born and living in the Philippines - and frankly, in a highly colonized society like the Philippines, where people relate being white-skinned as superior, people of African heritage are not as valued in the ramp as those of European heritage - unless they pass as White, such as Will DeVaughn, a commercial model in the Philippines who is half-White, and half-Black/Filipino.
Male models in the Philippines, just like in America, are deemed to have a good sense of personality and attractive, in the masculine sense of the word. They are supposed to be driven by the machismo culture.
SOUTH KOREA
Acting in South Korea is another big business - the key there is connection. Most people make it to the top because of connections with the big bosses of the TV companies.
Koreans want their male models to be charming and good-looking, and extremely White-skinned. Again, they regard European looking people as higher than those of African looking people, but in contrast to the Philippines, the only stars that make it good in Korea are those who are either of pure Korean ancestry or are of half-Korean ancestry, while in the Philippines, they keep on taking lots of foreign actors and actresses regardless of whether they have Filipino heritage or not.
Also, Koreans regard Korean actors and actresses as better looking than Whites or Blacks, something which does not happen among Filipinos, who regard half-Whites a thousand times better looking than those who look simply Filipino.
Male models in South Korea, just like in Europe, are deemed to be and are expected to be extremely fashionable. Most of them will conform to the pretty boy stereotype and will be what Americans call as 'girly'.
BOTH
Both the Philippines and South Korea have close relationships with Americans and both are ardent followers of Hollywood gossip - although much more in the Philippines.

I'm gonna be honest but your chance of getting in is bigger in the philippines. Since they accept more foreigners and brown skin.
In Korea most models has white skin and always has korean blood relation.

The latest news in U.S. is that North Korea threatens to wipe the U.S. off the map if the U.S. interferes with North Korea's missiles business. The moronic Kim Jung Il will not stop saber rattling until he gets the attention he wants from the world. I doubt any country will want to start another war, and that includes North Korea. But the U.N. can embargo idiot Kim's supply of fine wines, cheese, steaks and pornographic materials coming from the West. The UN should also try to steal his captive European chef. That should give NKorea's primping leader food for thought.

I am not so sure about Korean models.
well here in the Philippines, believe it or not.. they look for a fair white complexion. it's a weird culture - that they want white skinned, but then again, there are lot of tan-skinned models too I see on magazines. they don't look much on skinny types (like those in runways we see in US, or Europe), I've seen some hideous (by this, I mean, not too model type look) models on runways here with curvy bodies... not that I have something bad about curvies (they are healthy!)
the first thing that agents will tend to see in you is the face, then next the skin, then next the body, and then they'll work you out.
I suggest looking for a good model company and to be sure, you could start your workshops at ABS-CBN - they have lots of potential stars! and you'll have a good career, but I tell you, it's a very competitive ride! it's gonna get you lots of luck to land on your stardom.

I don't know about Korea but I would think that you would not have much luck here in the Philippines. There are thousands of unemployed Filipinos looking for that kind of work and I think that they would get hired before you. Besides I don't think foreign tourists are allowed to work.
