I think because most Yankee fans are known to have big mouths and talk trash about the 26 rings they have. Im not trying to say all Yankee fans do but most of them do. How do loyal Yankee fans celebrate the signing of Sabathia and then 2 weeks into the season start saying they should have never signed the guy? How do loyal fans boo there players at the beginning of the season at home when they struggle? If Yankee fans would cut their players some slack they would play 10 times better.

And to all the true Yankee fans who stay with there team even when they struggle I respect you for that.

As a true Yankee fan, I hate those people whose argument are we won 26 just as much as the next, but I also hate all the Yankee haters out there who throw out how AJ is the next Pavano and CC is done and Tex can't hit. They would have signed them in the blink of an eye, but feel the need to call them "Sofathia" or more random bullshit like that. I actually know what I'm talking about and show to all the Yankee haters out there that they arent actually the only team with some kind of question marks.

I absolutely don't mind a rivalry between say the Yanks and Sox but there is a difference between a rivalry and players getting trashed because they are on the Yanks. Again I'm not saying Yankee fans are perfect, but don't go saying that other fans are

EVERY team and EVERY city had its share of bad fans. Point blank, period. And every successful franchise has had bandwagon fans. I'm a die-hard Yankees fan and cherish that fanship with all my heart. But I know that there are some bandwagoners that came on board after '96. Just like there are TONS of bandwagon Red Sox fans that joined after 2004. To suggest that all Red Sox fans are "loyal" and "true" fans is fallacy.

The reason why the Yankees have that rep is because some people don't like the idea of people being braggarts about a team that isn't theirs. Or they met one or two fans (some Bobby from Brooklyn or Joey from the Bronx) who loved to talk about the Yankees and was a little too loud for their tastes. It's stereotyping.

Not all Yankees fans are loudmouths or bandwagoners. Just like all fans of the Cardinals, Brewers or other smaller town teams aren't saints and great fans. Plenty of Yankees fans, myself included, are loyal fans who don't beat their chests about how great the team is until 1) they win or 2) we're prompted.

Source(s): Yankees fan. And a REAL one at that.

I understand that they are not bandwagon fans otherwise they would like the Red Sox. The Yankees have not won since 2000 and will not win soon even with buying the free agent market. The sterotype comes from Yankee fans who like Notre Dame and the Cowboys as well. I know several people just like that.

Well, not all Yankee fans are like that. But them and the Red Sox do have the largest fan base outside of their respective cities, so that is a contributing factor.

Out of all of the fans of baseball, both the Red Sox and Yankees have the most bandwagon fans.

There is a kid that is a "Yankees" fan that lives by me, and I continue wondering......."How are yhou a Yankee fan?" He was a Mariners fan after they won 100 games that one year, and after they went down, he converted to the Yankees. He does have a history of converting teams in all sports.

They are Idiots because they cannot articulate why the Yankees are the best, according to them. They jump on the bandwagon only when the Yankees are winning. They are not fans but "followers," fair-weathered, sometimey Yankees lovers. You want real fans. Cubs, Angels, Twins, Red Sox, Mets, Astros, White Sox, Pirates, Phillies,Cardinals. These organizations have fans and not sometimey "followers."

Because most people don't live in the New York area, so they see Yankees fans from their area as just choosing to root for a winner rather than the home team.

While I think that you should root for your home team, if you choose to root for another team you have to stick to that team, no matter what.

If I can deal with still calling myself a Knicks fan you can deal with Carl Pavanoesque signings, A-Rod's neuroses/insecurities and other such stuff.

It also entails having to put up with people that no matter what, will not give the Yankees an ounce of credit for anything, no matter how deserving they are.

Idiots- Because the majority of their fans cannot back up why they are the greatest ever other than "we have 26 world championships".

Bandwagon Fans- The yankees fan base almost gets cut in half when they aren't winning. As soon as they start winning, people become interested again. Those aren't real fans. If you want to see real fans, come to New England. Sox fans are the most loyal of them all.

it's EASY to be a fan of a team that has won so much & a team that (with that payroll) should be in contention every year. so it's hard for people in Indiana (example) to look at another Indiana resident, Yankee fan & think he / she is die hard AND not wonder why that person opted to be a fan.

make that person a Yankee fan in a state that has their own team or a CITY that has a team & the questions are amplified.

no one asked any of you to be a Yankee fan so when you are an out of towner with those creds..... you REALLY can't get mad / wonder why people think that.

EDIT - when someone tells me they are FROM NY & are a Yankee fan.... i don't bat an eye / question their loyalty

    Source(s): nice rant. ahhhhhhhh

I'm not gonna lie...there are true, smart Yankee fans, and there are not-so-smart Yankee fans. A lot of the stereotyping has to do with jealousy I think, but some fans just bring it on themselves.
