Tax rate? Usual labour ruddy humbug?
Why do labour have to punish enterprise and people who wish to fund themselves rather than rely on state handouts? Surely they arent still stuck in the doggerel that its alright for them to live very well thank you very much but not the man out there working all the hours god gives?
Why not a flat 25p rate for everyone and attract money INTO the country from businesses and investors abroad?
We're an island - why not make us a tax haven?
And we voted them in.
Who else thinks the budget was not good for UK as a whole?
I cant really decide on any of these answers. What I do know is I dont agree with you Michael.
What this budget has done - yet again repeating history - is that those with entrepreneurial skills, those with business that generate income here - will take it elsewhere.
And whilst I get what you are saying about taxation - the graduated tax should not exceed 20p in the pound. There should be no tax on those earning under ten thousand a year say, then graduating up to 20p.
And if you are going to post a statement such as turning us into a tax haven isnt an option - then state why.
I am old enough to have lived through labour governments of old and seen even die hard members of my family who had been lifelong labour supporters vote elsewhere.
This budget helps no one but the government. It is cynical, without thought to to the future and certainly offers no help to our current economic climate.
Ergo I am going to let you the voters choose best answer.

Sorry I have to disagree with you.
I'm in favour of progressive taxation,and the idea that we could become a tax haven is not an option.
Why should the nation be held to ransom by the wealthiest 1%, anymore than we were held to ransom in the late 1970s by irresponsible trades unions?
It's been shown time and again by economists that it's not the top 10th decile who 'create' jobs anyway, rather they act as a drag on the economy by pushing up house prices.
I would much rather live in a fair society where an accountant pays more tax than the woman who looks after his senile parents.

I remember a 95% tax rate in the 60's. Under Labour and the Tories.

Because the Labour are just money makers that do not spare a thought for those who are trying to save their money.
