How do you stop war in Spore?
I've been enjoying Spore up until this point: I'm in the interstellar phase & some other species has declared war on me. Now every time I go to leave my home planet's orbit, my home planet is instantly under attack again! (I din't know where these aliens are coming from!) How do I make peace with, or defeat, this other species so I can get back to playing the rest of the game? Any advice would be appreciated.

Diplomacy in Spore kind of sucks.
Find the race's systems. Fix up their crappy T0 planets to at least T1, preferably t3 if you have the tools. Good idea would be to carry the food web from your home planet and stock them with those.
Anyway, after a while their mood will improve. Then talk to them and try to get them to agree to peace.
It's a hassle. Spore's space stage was not terribly well done.
