Do you share the same thoughts as me regarding...?
DO YOU LIKE SOME OF THE IPL TEAM NAMES OR DO YOU FIND THEM A BIT CHILD LIKE.
I dont like names like Super Kings, Kings XI, Daredevils. Doesnt sound like the names of teams where grown men play.
Compare the names of teams used in IPL with those say in the European football leagues, i think the ones they use sound more like professional sports teams, more "complete" and "professional"
Even the name Mumbai Indians doesnt make sense. Do they mean to say that all the other 7 teams are non-indian ones?
I know its a trivial matter, but i would just like to know your views on this
I apologise for asking such a qn ricky...
yes kartik, even the commercial for mumbai has lyrics (in hindi) which say something like "for the love of our homeland".
why should a foreign player be thinking he is playing for his homeland when he is actually playing for mumbai. awkward
not many responses here. i had hoped to have more views and perspectives on this

I don't some names.
Kings XI: an odd name, but not bad
Super kings: I know kings, but what are super kings?
Mumbai Indians: Are people from other parts of India not Indians?
Royal Challengers: good name, but Royal Challenge happens to be liquor brand from UB distilleries. And the logo for both are same.
Knightrider: how can you ride a knight?
The rest of the names are okay.

Good question, you wouldn't think it was an Indian league with names like "Knightriders, Royals" or "Daredevils". You'd think they'd use names more indigenous to India such as "Cobra's", "Tigers", "Elephants" (ok elephants might be a bit naff but you get the point).

I don't think there's any problem having such names..
Infact, they make the competition interesting & competitive by calling themselves as Daredevils,Super kings, etc.
However,I didn't like the name 'Mumbai Indians'[which is my favourite team] & it doesn't make sense coz it has foreign players too!

The names are confusing also. Some words in different teans are similar and a person of my age has to exert on brain to recollect what the short form means and of which state is the team and who are the players. I also dislike the way it is presented on TV. One who switches on TV at some time has to wait for long to understand who are playing, who is bowling and what has happened in the past. Scoreboards are not shown frequently as it used to some years back. Advertising and moneymaking steals away the fun. Compared to that it is better to follow the game on www.cricinfo.com.

I don't like the names of the teams, especially Knightriders, were they thinking of the tv show when they named the team?
I would have preferred a nickname based on something which is iconic and unique to the area in which a team originated.

I only have problem with 'Super Kings' and 'Daredevils'. These names do sound a little childish but its what the kids are interested in. I don't have any problems with it as long as they attract new fans and play good cricket.

Yea,you are right.
Take those names in football matches in US.Manchester United,Chelsea sounds brilliant.
And now i saw Deccan charges changed their name in to Deccan Chronicles.Little bit good. But if teams can slowly change their names in to something interesting,it'll be better.
Edit-this is not boring
a good one
